In Canada we have some pretty intense winters. Or as I like to call it – “Snowmageddon”. Summer weather usually extends into September and by November 1st we are putting our snow tires on and planning for winter. Canadian fall (or Ontario fall at least) is only about a month long – October.
Because of this, we are very lucky that our Thanksgiving Holiday lands in October. If it didn’t, “Thanksgiving Alfresco” would not be a practical option!

We have a very large, loud, and loving family. We like to refer to ourselves as The Griswolds, (but I’ll get more into that next month when the Christmas decor comes out). Holidays are a large production when we all get together and because my mum downsized last year we decided to host Thanksgiving for 35 people in the backyard, alfresco style.
We rented four 8ft tables so they would be the same size and line up properly, but the rest (furniture and decor) were things we already had. My mum, sister and I all love to plan, decorate, and host. So when the Thanksgiving alfresco idea was born the text messages started flooding in: “Calling all fall throws & scarves!”

One of my favourite parts of this theme were the mismatched chairs. My mum is always picking up old wooden chairs from garage sales and beyond. Different colours, great! Paint chipped, great! Different sizes and styles, great! Some of these chairs are older than I am, and those are usually the sturdiest.
For decor, we kept it very natural with leaves, pine cones, pumpkins, fall floral, and a blanket or throw for each person to keep warm.

It all came together beautifully, and the weather was perfect! If you are thinking of hosting a fall dinner or event outside it’s not as daunting as it seems! All you need are some fall throw blankets, good food, some fun decor and good company!
I have linked some fun fall accessories to get you started on your own backyard fall event!
