So, let me start off by saying I am a bit of a control freak when it comes to events and event planning… Like, an “excited BRIDE-ZILLA” but for all events. I’m not ashamed. I know this about myself. 🙂
So when I got engaged I was pretty darn excited about all of the events that needed planning! (Obviously also about marrying the love of my life – but that’s a given 😉 )
The theme for the Bridal Shower was “Afternoon Tea, With The Bride To Be!” and just as the theme suggests, it was a beautiful afternoon tea (and bubbly) service with all of my favourite ladies celebrating with me.
I found a location that was perfect for the vibe I was looking for: (that classy Sunday afternoon high tea in pearls feeling) The Fairmont Royal York. They happen to be known for their afternoon tea and serve it every weekend in the historical Library Bar. For my event, we rented one of the Salons on the 19th floor executive level and it was perfect! Exclusive and beautiful!
The service was magical! Champagne, towers of elegant finger sandwiches, pastries, and tea! What more could you want for a bridal affair!
Now I LOVE organizing, and I have great ideas – but I am not very good with my hands or typical DIY’s. Etsy has always been my go-to for all things “Partial DIY” as I like to call it. Partial DIY is when I don’t outsource the project completely, but get a little help from those on Etsy that are more experienced in the matter.
Personalized stationary really adds that luxurious feeling to events. I’m not one to shell out hundreds of dollars to go to a stationary store, but I have no problem buying digital downloads on Etsy and printing it myself. I even invested in a proper paper cutter! Mind you that’s where my husband came in, his formal job was professional paper cutter for about the whole year leading up to our wedding (he was thrilled…).
I found an Etsy shop I really liked, they had this beautiful rustic peony floral theme – it was perfect! So I purchased the templates for the name cards, menu’s, cards & gift signs and even some best wishes cards for my guests to fill out for us. These were really special as I got to read them all with my husband when the shower was over.
All of these template purchases were so easy! You buy the digital download and then you can change the text and print them off at home! I bought some card stock, and my paper cutter and I was on my way! (Note: You can also opt to have them customize it and mail it out to you with some of the Etsy shops, but that’s much more expensive).
The final detail was the silver frames. I knew that I had wanted multiple matching frames for a gallery wall in our house that we were moving into. So I used this as an opportunity to buy ten 8×10 and ten 5×7 matching silver frames, and it was one of the best decisions I made! I was able to use some of the 8×10’s to hold the beautiful signs at the bridal shower, then I used the 5×7’s at the wedding for table numbers! (Blog post on wedding planning coming soon!). Now that all the events are said and done, these frames are host to a gallery wall of our wedding pictures!
I can’t suggest this idea enough! It seems like a hefty investment for event decor, but we got SO much use out of them! For them to be something you can actually re-purpose in your home after the wedding is a huge win!
I have linked the Etsy shop I used for all of my stationary as well as some of the extra’s I needed as well.
